The public notification period for the proposed Auckland Regional Landfill has now ended. We are very pleased to report there were a total of 967 submissions received by close off on Tuesday 26 May.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to make a submission. The number received shows a good interest in the project, and we look forward to reading all the submissions in detail and considering how we can best address suggestions and concerns.
Waste Management confirmed with Council some time ago that we generally won’t oppose any late submissions being accepted by the Hearing Panel. This was in case the COVID-19 Level 4 restrictions continued for many months and impacted anyone being unable to submit by the notified deadline.
We will maintain this commitment, and remind anyone considering making a late submission that both Council and Waste Management need time to assess any late submissions for responses to be included in the Council’s reporting process. We therefore encourage anyone who still wishes to submit to do so as soon as possible.
Any late submissions can be dropped off at Auckland Council service centres and libraries, or sent in via email or post as follows:
Email: premiumsubmissions@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz
Post: Auckland Council, Resource Consents, Private Bag 92300, Auckland 1142, Attention: Regulatory Support
Email: unitaryplan@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz
Post: Auckland Council, Unitary Plan Private Bag 92300, Auckland 1142, Attention: Planning Technician
You are still able to access all the documentation on the resource consent application here and the Private Plan Change here.
Auckland Council must now prepare a summary of submissions on the Private Plan Change and notify submitters and certain other parties. The submitters then have an opportunity to lodge further submissions to either support or oppose matters raised by others in the first round of submissions.
Shortly, Council will also appoint commissioners to run the Resource Consent and Private Plan Change hearings.
We will send another update when we have more information about the process and timeframes to share.
In the meantime, if we can help you at all, please contact us at Waste Management on 0800 927 837 (leave a message so we can provide a full reply) or arl@wastemanagement.co.nz with any questions or queries you may have about the proposal.
