Sustainable building and construction waste services a winner for ACG

Innovative communication, outstanding service and a focus on sustainability has seen Auckland Construction Group (ACG) choose Waste Management for its waste and recycling needs across its 13 building and construction sites.

Building & Construction Sales Specialist Sunny Jhawar first approached ACG back in 2021 to see if Waste Management could make their business more cost-effective and efficient through seamless waste, recycling, and Port-O-let services.

Although they were reasonably happy with their waste providers, ACG gave Sunny the opportunity to show what Waste Management could do at two small sites.

Sunny’s optimistic, no-problem-too-big approach, fulsome communication through the WeChat app and regular site visits – along with a bundle deal for skips and Port-o-lets – soon won the team over.

Sunny says many of the site managers and team members speak Chinese as their first language, so WeChat was an ideal solution for communicating with everyone. The translation tool was put to great use, meaning there was never any confusion about delivery or service times.

ACG is also sustainability focused, and Waste Management’s building and construction separation at source offering was hugely attractive as it is the best way to maximise resource recovery and minimise waste.

ACG is making use of source separation at a new 50 lot housing development called Te Māra, which is being constructed to Homestar sustainability standards. We provide skips and training so the building teams can easily separate out their waste onsite – which means much better resource recovery for recycling or reuse.

Waste Management is the first waste company to meet the New Zealand Green Building Council’s construction and demolition waste reporting criteria – which means we have proven we can support NZ’s building and construction industry meet Green Star and Homestar standards by maximising their resource recovery and minimising waste.

Solutions

Communication is key with regular site visits, great relationship building with site managers across 13 Auckland sites and use of WeChat so that everyone is on the same page, with easy Mandarin to English translation (and vice versa) when required.

We are also experienced at offering separation at source – which means there are multiple skips provided for each type of building waste, which means better recourse recovery and the ability to easily meet Homestar accreditation requirements.

Result

Waste Management now provides all waste, recycling and Port-O-let services for ACG at 13 building and construction sites across Auckland and growing. ACG is a very happy customer!
