Earlier this month, our Christchurch team worked with Christchurch City Council to launch a hazardous waste removal weekend to support Canterbury residents with the safe disposal of dangerous waste.
Over the weekend, residents were able drop off hazardous waste to our Banks Peninsula Transfer Station free of charge.
The initiative helps stop members of the public illegally dumping hazardous waste, such as household paint, household and agrichemicals at the Banks Peninsula facility after hours.
The initiative was a major success with 61 customers dropping off hazardous waste. Customers came from across the region including areas such as; Akaroa, Little River, Takamatua, Robinson’s Bay, Barry’s Bay, Pigeon’s Bay, Duvauchelle, Okuti Valley and Wainui.
A total 3366kgs of hazardous waste was dropped off over the three days and included some dangerous chemicals such as 245T and herbicide aligned with Agent Orange.
We’re looking at making this an annual event and are working with Christchurch City Council to make plans for next year.
