Happy three years Queenstown team!

It’s been three years since Waste Management took over the Queenstown Lakes District Council municipal contract.

It was a challenging contract to take on, with nearly 60,000 bins needing to be delivered district-wide, new trucks, collection staff recruited and trained, an online collection reminder website set up and facilities handed over and refurbished.

Queenstown Operations Supervisor - Fleet Sean Cronin says it’s been a wild ride over the past three years, but he’s incredibly proud of the team.

COVID has particularly affected the Queenstown Lakes District, which relies on travellers and foreign nationals for much of its labour force.

Add to this some extreme weather on challenging roads, and Sean says it safe to say there have been challenges.

“The silver lining is that we’ve all pulled together and there has never been a day when we haven’t been able to do our collections – other than due to extreme weather. The team has always been dedicated and put the mahi in to get the job done.”

The contract runs for 15 years total – so there will be many more milestones ahead.
