Waste Management is delighted to be taking part in this weekend’s inaugural National Ride for Road Safety. The event takes place this Sunday, 19 November, at 10am in eight regions across New Zealand including - Whangarei, Dairy Flat, Katikati, New Plymouth, Kāpiti, Rakaia, and North Canterbury.
The event has been organised to highlight road safety for people who ride horses on public roads following a serious accident involving Auckland journalist Karen Rutherford last year.
The National Ride for Road Safety aims to attract people on horseback and on foot with an estimated 1,000 people getting involved at the different locations across New Zealand. Participants include pony club and recreational riders and walkers as well as MPs and journalists.
The Dairy Flat event is thought to be the largest. Waste Management’s Redvale Landfill & Energy Park is located in the area and the ride will include tracks covering the company’s property. Waste Management team members will also be taking part.
Andy Vosper, Regional Manager of the Redvale Landfill & Energy Park, says the ride fits with Waste Management’s focus on safety.
“The National Ride for Road Safety is all about promoting safe practices and that’s very much a part of our culture at Waste Management. It’s also a great chance to get involved with our local community and support an important initiative. We want to do our part in helping make sure the roads are safer for all road users.”
